NASA LIVE | Sunita Williams Latest News: Spacex Crew-9 Begins Journey Back To Earth | N18G
NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore are concluding their remarkable nine-month stay on the International Space Station (ISS). Their return to Earth is scheduled for today (March 18) when they will undock from the station. Sunita Williams, Butch Wilmore, and two other Crew-9 members will return to Earth aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft.

Originally slated for a brief eight-day test mission aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, their stay was extended due to unexpected technical difficulties with the vehicle. The astronauts, currently aboard the International Space Station (ISS), faced an extended stay due to earlier technical issues with the Boeing Starliner spacecraft.

Why Was Sunita Williams’ Stuck In Space For 9 Months?
Their mission, which began in June of last year, was initially planned as an 8-day test flight for Boeing’s Starliner. However, propulsion problems with the Starliner rendered it unsafe for their return journey, requiring a change of plans. The astronauts were then added to the Crew-9 mission.

Now the astronauts, after an extended stay in space conducting over 150 scientific experiments, are returning to Earth as part of the SpaceX Crew-9 mission. The crew exchange was facilitated by the arrival of the Crew-10 mission, which docked at the International Space Station (ISS) on March 17.

What Is Sunita Williams’ Splashdown Time?
Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, along with astronauts Nick Hague and Aleksandr Gorbunov, will return on the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft. The 17-hour journey will conclude with a splashdown off the Florida coast at 3:27 a.m. IST on March 19.
