Post Malone was never simply one thing. His skills are as broad as his artistic vision is vast – and it’s always been that way. Listen to “White Iverson” again. That 2016 nugget was just as much a pop fever dream as it was a cornerstone of Soundcloud rap. Seems like our hero has been in perpetual evolution since day one. Connect the dots between ‘beerbongs & bentleys’ and ‘Twelve Carat Toothache’ and you’ll see a lot of territory being covered in a very logical and very compelling way. Now we’re waiting for ‘Austin,’ Posty’s latest and perhaps most revealing work to date (his real name is Austin Richard Post). It arrives July 28, and the singer has told fans that it’s “some of the most challenging and rewarding music for me, a least – trying to really push myself and really do some cool stuff.” To celebrate the arrival of his fifth full album, we united with Mr. Malone in SoCal last month. The results are stellar, with Post being deeply candid and deeply expressive for the cameras. Geographically and emotionally, he does it all in these three performances - strumming a guitar poolside in “Green Thumb,” anguishing on the couch in “Overdrive,” and balancing on the roof in “Something Real.” Here’s to Post, here’s to Austin.

It’s taken almost a decade, but Kenia OS has found her place as one of the most exciting voices in Latin pop. Whether it be whisky, wine, or beer, musicians have a long history of booze-drenched lyrics. But can you recall one about Disaronno? Gabzy’s “Piano” might not be the first to tip the Italian amaretto, but his new track surely matches its taste. Every word from the Southeast Londoner goes down smooth, with just a hint of bite: “Girl, I see you/Don’t play games, I’ll read you/Follow me, I’ll lead you/Let me show you how we do.” One could be convinced that producer Lekaa Beats filtered the instruments through the amber-hued liquid. Raised by Nigerian parents, Gabzy reps a worldly vibe. For two years, he lived in the States and absorbed the country’s R&B on the radio. Mostly, the man who also goes by Mr. Malone - an “alter ego” - credits the “multicultural vibe” of Peckham, the London neighborhood where he resided the longest, with shaping his art. Music was always a first love; but his artistic career was sidetracked by his footballing talents. That was until some local rhymers caught wind of a freestyle and urged him back on course. The AyoJay fan often points to his 2019 EP, ‘Summers,’ as an artistic inflection point. It’s the project that solidified his creative partnership with American producer Melvitto. Recently Amaarae gave the duo a shoutout, joining Saweetie on the growing list of big names that have dapped up our man. In a surprise release, fellow UK heartthrobs Odeal, and JayO joined Gabzy for "Too Fine." All three artists have made a stamp on their own lanes within the UK RnB and Afroswing space, the collab captures the essence of their attraction.

It takes a strong artistic identity to shoulder both indie cred and pop appeal. Good thing there’s nothing fragile about Glass Animals. The UK quartet led by Dave Bayley hit the ground running when they crafted two beloved electro-pop albums: 2014’s gossamer debut ‘ZABA’ and 2016’s kaleidoscopic 'How To Be A Human Being.' For years, hip festival crowds swayed and stepped to “Gooey,” “Black Mambo,” and “Pork Soda.” Then came ‘Dreamland’ and its gargantuan single, “Heat Waves.” To make a hit so massive - it literally holds the title for longest run on the Billboard Hot 100 chart ever, and pretty much any streaming record imaginable for an “indie” band - is an accomplishment typically reserved for the “in your wildest dreams, pal” section of life. Such success can weigh a band down. It can also free more dreams. The new ‘I Love You So F**cking Much,’ arrives as the band has settled into what Bayley called the “beautiful roller coaster” of the past few years. He wrote much of the new music "quickly," while isolated in an Airbnb on LA's Mulholland Drive, and in “Creatures In Heaven,” you can hear a “be in the moment” message. The theme of removed perspective weaves right into our collab with the Brit lads. “Creatures In Heaven” found their space capsule crash landed on a far-away red planet, and “Show Pony” emphasizes the foursome as a band that’s stronger together. The show must always go on…

Myles Smith - Stargazing. An exclusive performance for Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.

Thanks to this new generation of songwriters, folk-pop is having a big revival. Myles Smith figures to be a key part of the story. The UK singer’s breakout track “Stargazing” has been spinning alongside the Noah Kahans, Zach Bryans, and Kacey Musgraves of the world since it dropped in May. And why not? It’s got all the right ingredients: a stomp-clap foundation, anthemic “oohs,” and idealistic romance. No surprise this Coldplay and Labyrinth fan spent formative years playing pubs around Luton. It’s quite easy to picture him leading a bar crowd with his guitar if you’ve waded through his debut EP, ‘You Promised a Lifetime.’ Check the buoyant “My Home” and “Solo” if you want a stronger grasp on his Mumford-tinged lane. That project was, in part, the result of friends encouraging the sociology major to care less about making the most of his university degree and more about making music. When he doubled down on posting covers online, the response only multiplied. He once recalled Jared Leto posting one of his covers while he was in a Budapest bath house. When we chatted with him on his DSCVR shoot day, he wisely insisted that his craft isn’t tied to any specific genre. Instead, “it’s tied to a feeling,” he explained. “Group therapy, some of my fans call it.” Myles has and will spend a lot of 2024 on his Slightly Less Lonely Global Tour. Tons of the shows have already sold out. The world is really responding to that feeling, as he described it, and we were only happy to help capture it.

Prince Royce is in one of the most revelatory stages of his career. His new album ‘Llamada Perdida’ is one of his most personal works to date, with lyrics inspired by breakups, romantic relationships and personal challenges. It’s also one of his most sonically ambitious works, with collaborators as diverse as Gabito Ballesteros, Boogie wit da Hoodie, Lenny Tavárez and Paloma Mami. “I think that it was difficult for me to put some of these songs out,” Royce told Rolling Stone. “Ultimately, I had fun with it, and I think it was a therapeutic experience for me. It gave me closure.” The risks paid off in dividends. The collaboration with Ballesteros turned into his 24th number one hit on the Billboard Latin Airplay chart. About his song “La Corriente”, which he performed live at Vevo's studio in New York, the crooner says that it’s a “sexy” track that highlights how complex bachata as a genre can be. “It’s hard in bachata to mix a lot of sounds without it being disturbing to the ear,” Royce said. “This is bachata in 4K.” Watching “Champaña” performed live, with the intensity and drama that Royce’s voice carries, is a testament to the unforgettable sonic highways the Dominican is opening for the genre.

Welcome to the world of Doja Cat. Born and raised in L.A., the 24-year-old self-taught singer-rapper is a vet of sorts. The arts were central to her upbringing, and she started sharing her music on Soundcloud back in 2013. A year later she dropped her much-buzzed-about ‘Purrr!’ EP. Ever since, she’s nurtured an ever-growing array of feverish fans who revere her for combining a radiant charisma with unique flow and tongue-in-cheek lyrics (see: the irresistible“MOOO!”). Seems like Doja has designed her version of alt-R&B to take off in any direction she chooses. Tours with Lizzo and Theophilius London led right into 2018’s impressive ‘Amala,’ her debut proper, followed by last year’s ‘Hot Pink.’ That album’s “Say So” is currently clocking big numbers. Arresting visuals help. Her videos for both her radio juggernaut and "Rules" are wildly fun. When the Vevo production team united with the feline phenom to figure out performance ideas, the creative juices were flowing. The goal? Put the “cat” in Doja Cat - a decision that resulted in what’s probably our most ambitious studio build to date for a LIFT performance. For her “Streets” performance, we built Doja a massive bowl of 2%, where she was clearly in her element. And if that isn’t peak, then the human-sized scratching house of her "Say So" performance is. Dressed in full cat-ear regalia, she pawed her way through the two-story structure, purring the lyrics to her R&B throwback jam, which currently sits nicely in the Top 10 pop charts and is a smash hit for the spring of 2020.

If our Official Live Performances of “pov” and “safety net” reveal anything, it’s that Ariana Grande excels at her job because she’s so passionate about the results. You don’t hit the high notes, you don’t exude candor, and you don’t make pop music as moving as she does without crossing the T’s and dotting the I’s. A very cool Cali session with the look and feel of a cozy little meadow was a perfect place to turn some of the best tunes on ‘Positions’ into utterly memorable performances. Go Team Ari. In a typically inventive move, our hero chose to loop her vocals when it came time to perform the album’s title track. Watch her augment the band’s moves with a little layering of her voice. As she references both the kitchen and the bedroom in her lyrics, the sound stacks up, taking on its own internal rhythm. Beautiful.

Simi - All I Want. An exclusive performance for Vevo.

From 2017's 'Simisola' to 2022's 'To Be Honest,' all the building block's of Simi's music got stronger and stronger and stronger. The Nigerian singer with the gospel roots and the pop sensibilities, who actually dropped her first album in 2008 and by 2022 was respected enough to guide neophytes on the seventh season of Nigerian Idol, is striver who's always nudging herself towards further eloquence. But there's a through-line in her work as well, and it's called rhythm. The groove that keeps 2017's "Joromi" bouncing is also providing the tension on 'TBH''s "Logba Logba." It was "Tiff," a ballad with a beat, that busted her out of the pack back in 2014. From then on, it's been one foot in front of the other - achievement after achievement. The singer, who is married to Adekunle Gold, tickled fans when she answered a recent Twitter question about an upcoming album in the affirmative. "Yes, and it's fire" was the confirmation. Know what else is fire? This studio version of "All I Want." Her four-piece band does no wrong and Simi soars over their syncopation. Yes, the groove is there.

LOCAL SINGER-SONGWRITER IS ONE OF THE FINAL 2 CONTESTANTS IN CMT'S "MUSIC CITY MADNESS" CONTEST


Torrance resident, Danny Hamilton has reached the final round in Country Music Television's annual, nationwide, singer-songwriter competition, "Music City Madness." Contestants from all over the U.S. submitted video entries in early October and fans worldwide have been voting online every day since, narrowing an initial 64 finalists down to just 2. Voting for this final round will continue until the contest concludes on December 14th at 9:00 am Pacific time. The winner will be announced on December 15th. The contest finale is set to air on CMT December 11th at 10:00am Pacific time.

Danny, a graduate of South High School in Torrance, has been performing around Southern California for over a decade, playing in local clubs like The Whisky A Go-Go and The Hard Rock Cafe among many others. He is also a regular performer at local festivals and fundraisers. This is Danny's third year as a finalist in the Music City Madness competition.

Danny's musical roots span from Rock and Roll, Blues, Folk, Blugrass to Country, but calls HIS music "Roots-Rock". The video he submitted to this contest, recorded earlier this year, features Danny performing his song "Bury the Devil" with friends and fellow artists Christopher Lopez, Teri Hitt, Brian Hardin, Cela Scott and David Crocco.
