Jeffrey Gibson, a member of the Mississippi band of Choctaw Indians and of Cherokee descent, is the first Indigenous artist to be chosen to represent the United States with a solo exhibition at the Venice Biennale, which is considered the Olympics of the art world. Correspondent Seth Doane visits the site of the Biennale, and meets with Gibson at his studio in Upstate New York, where he created his exhibition titled "the space in which to place me."

That 2016 nugget was just as much a pop fever dream as it was a cornerstone of Soundcloud rap. Seems like our hero has been in perpetual evolution since day one. Connect the dots between ‘beerbongs & bentleys’ and ‘Twelve Carat Toothache’ and you’ll see a lot of territory being covered in a very logical and very compelling way. Now we’re waiting for ‘Austin,’ Posty’s latest and perhaps most revealing work to date (his real name is Austin Richard Post). It arrives July 28, and the singer has told fans that it’s “some of the most challenging and rewarding music for me, a least – trying to really push myself and really do some cool stuff.” To celebrate the arrival of his fifth full album, we united with Mr. Malone in SoCal last month. The results are stellar, with Post being deeply candid and deeply expressive for the cameras. Geographically and emotionally, he does it all in these three performances - strumming a guitar poolside in “Green Thumb,” anguishing on the couch in “Overdrive,” and balancing on the roof in “Something Real.” Here’s to Post, here’s to Austin.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker issues a stark warning during his annual budget address — not on the state’s finances but rather his fear that President Donald Trump’s America is going down the same path as Nazi Germany.

“My oath is to the Constitution of our state and of our country. We don’t have kings in America, and I don’t intend to bend my knee to one,” Pritzker said, gaining national attention and blowback from lawmakers across the aisle.

As for the budget, Illinois is keeping spending tight amid uncertainty around federal funds.

Meanwhile, a plan to lower the speed limit on Chicago streets hits the brakes.

Gracie Abrams - The Secret of Us (Short Film) | Vevo Extended Play

The world got to know Gracie Abrams this year. More importantly, she got to know herself quite a bit better too. That’s the story behind ‘The Secret of Us,’ the singer-songwriter’s lush, confessional, and revelatory second album. The 13-song project arrived this summer in the wake of successful singles “Risk” and “Close to You,” a pair of tracks that stuck a couple toes out from under the whispery quilt of her previous work. "Hunter S Thompson was an author trapped in the body of a rock star. His drug-fuelled adventures were legendary and became the basis of one of the classics of 20th century literature. Thompson’s constant questioning of authority and wild antics made him a hero for a generation of rebels across the globe. But in the end it wasn’t enough.

A lifetime of alcohol and drug abuse was taking their toll. At 67, with a broken leg, two hip operations and in chronic pain Thompson could no longer live up to the legend he’d created. On February 20, 2005, he decided to end it all with one of his favorite possessions, a Smith and Wesson 45. Final 24 charts the life of this troubled genius and uncovers why a bullet to the head was the only way out."

Follow along as NASA launches the Mars 2020 Mission, perhaps the most ambitious hunt yet for signs of ancient life on Mars.

The spacecraft will blaze into the Martian atmosphere at some 12,000 miles per hour and attempt to lower the Perseverance Rover in the rocky Jezero Crater, home to a dried-up river delta scientists think could have harbored life. Perseverance will comb the area for signs of life and collect samples for possible return to Earth. Traveling onboard is a four-pound helicopter that will conduct a series of test flights—the first on another planet.

During its journey, Perseverance will also test technology designed to produce oxygen from the Martian atmosphere, in hopes that the gas could be used for fuel—or for humans to breathe—on future missions.
