President Trump has blamed Ukraine for starting the war that was started by Russia, and America’s traditional European allies are in a state of shock. Join moderator Jeffrey Goldberg, Peter Baker of The New York Times, Susan Glasser of The New Yorker and Jonathan Lemire of The Atlantic to discuss this and more.

French President Emmanuel Macron corrected U.S. President Donald Trump Monday on the extent of European support for Ukraine as the two leaders met at the White House, three years after Russia invaded Ukraine.

While the two leaders spoke with reporters in the Oval Office, Macron interrupted Trump as he claimed "Europe is loaning the money to Ukraine. They’re getting their money back."

Macron interjected, saying, “No, in fact, to be frank, we paid 60 percent of the total effort. It was through, like the U.S.: loans, guarantees, grants. We provided real money, to be clear.”

The moment comes after Trump shocked Europe leaders by holding high-level talks about ending the war in Ukraine with Russian officials, without any Ukrainian or European officials present.

Pushing opioids. Bribing doctors. Making millions. FRONTLINE and the Financial Times investigate how Insys Therapeutics profited from a fentanyl-based painkiller up to 100 times stronger than morphine — and how some Wall Street investors looked the other way.

This journalism is made possible by viewers like you. Support your local PBS station here:

“Opioids, Inc.” tells the inside story of how Insys profited from Subsys, a fast-acting fentanyl-based spray that's been linked to hundreds of deaths. Tactics included targeting high-prescribing doctors and nurse practitioners known as “whales,” misleading insurers, and holding contests for the sales team: the higher the prescription doses they got doctors to write, the larger the cash prize — despite the dangers to patients. But as the documentary traces in unprecedented detail, the scheme fell apart: With federal prosecutors using anti-racketeering laws designed to fight organized crime, Insys became the first pharmaceutical company to have its CEO sentenced to prison time in federal court in connection with the opioid crisis.

FRONTLINE investigates the causes of the deadly August 2023 wildfire in Maui, the chaotic response, and the missed warnings.

This journalism is made possible by viewers like you. Support your local PBS station here: https://www.pbs.org/donate

In August 2023, the deadliest U.S. wildfire in more than a century reduced much of the Hawaiian town of Lahaina to ashes, killing more than 100 people and displacing thousands. Coming in the wake of a state investigation that found a broad cascade of failures, “Maui’s Deadly Firestorm” investigates critical missteps that day — and in the years prior, as the county and state were repeatedly advised to invest more money in prevention and preparedness, and as experts and residents raised concerns.

The documentary draws on harrowing footage filmed by those in the path of the inferno and firsthand accounts from survivors, victims’ families and friends, first responders, and local and state authorities. Through these accounts as well as a detailed analysis of over a thousand 911 calls and public records across multiple government agencies, it provides a wrenching, moment-by-moment reconstruction of the fire and its aftermath.

The film also examines how changes to the climate and landscape have made Maui increasingly vulnerable to fires and raises difficult questions about what led to the fire’s heavy toll.

“Maui’s Deadly Firestorm” is a FRONTLINE production with Mandarin Duck Films LLC. The writer, producer and director is Xinyan Yu. The producer is Christina Avalos. The senior producer is Frank Koughan. The editor-in-chief and executive producer of FRONTLINE is Raney Aronson-Rath.

FRONTLINE investigates the lives and characters of Kamala Harris and Donald Trump as they seek the presidency.

This journalism is made possible by viewers like you. Support your local PBS station here: https://www.pbs.org/donate/

In November’s historic election, Americans will decide who will lead the nation for the next four years: Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump.

“The Choice 2024” is the latest installment of FRONTLINE’s critically acclaimed election-year special that has been praised as “richly detailed” (The Wall Street Journal) and “completely riveting” (The Washington Post). The two-hour documentary draws on dozens of revealing interviews with those who know Trump and Harris best to present deeply reported narrative arcs of both candidates’ lives, going all the way back to their childhoods.

To trace Harris’ journey from 1960s Berkeley through her rise as a prosecutor and leading up to her time as the first Black, South Asian and female vice president, “The Choice 2024” team spoke to some of Harris’ childhood friends, college classmates, advisors in California and in the White House, and journalists who have covered her career. To chronicle Trump’s path from New York real estate, to entertainment, to politics, the team tapped into a vast collection of interviews from his 2016 campaign days through the present, with everyone from his niece to business and television associates, biographers, and advisors who worked with him in the White House.

The documentary takes viewers inside key moments in each candidate’s life and examines who Harris and Trump are, how they lead, what shaped their characters, and how they arrived at their dueling visions for America’s future.

“The Choice 2024: Harris vs. Trump” is a FRONTLINE production with Kirk Documentary Group, Ltd. The director is Michael Kirk. The producers are Michael Kirk, Mike Wiser, Vanessa Fica and Philip Bennett. The writers are Michael Kirk and Mike Wiser. The reporters are Vanessa Fica and Brooke Nelson Alexander. The editor-in-chief and executive producer of FRONTLINE is Raney Aronson-Rath.

The complex, contentious U.S.-China relationship is a high-profile issue President-elect Donald Trump will face in his second term. FRONTLINE’s timely investigation traces China’s emergence as one of the world’s wealthiest and most repressive countries, and the role of its longtime president, Xi Jinping.

This journalism is made possible by viewers like you. Support your local PBS station here: https://www.pbs.org/donate

Offering a comprehensive look at Xi’s vision for China and the broader implications — from his crackdown on Muslims in Xinjiang to his provocative ambitions for Taiwan — “China, the U.S. & the Rise of Xi Jinping” also probes the state of China’s economy and its trade war with the U.S., the hostile China-U.S. relationship, the ramifications and what may come next.

With China largely shutting out the international media, the two-hour documentary draws on interviews with former Chinese Communist Party members, exiled human rights and democracy activists, academics, authors and journalists to trace the events that shaped President Xi. It examines the trajectory of his life, from being sent to the countryside to perform hard labor during the Maoist revolution, to his embrace of the Chinese Communist Party and his rise through its leadership, to how he has tightened his grip throughout his presidency.

“China, the U.S. & the Rise of Xi Jinping” is a FRONTLINE production with RAIN Media, Inc. The producers are Martin Smith, Marcela Gaviria and Brian Funck. The correspondent is Martin Smith. The co-producers are Scott Anger and Elizabeth Hope Williams. The writers and directors are Marcela Gaviria and Martin Smith.

FRONTLINE examines defining moments over Donald Trump’s life and career, his 2020 election loss, felony convictions and his historic comeback.

This journalism is made possible by viewers like you. Support your local PBS station here: https://www.pbs.org/donate

Coming after an unprecedented campaign season that saw Trump’s felony conviction in a “hush money” case, multiple assassination attempts against him, and President Joe Biden’s exit from the race just four months before the election, “Trump’s Comeback” tells the story of Trump’s return to the presidency, overcoming obstacles and opposition.

The film investigates how Trump’s comeback had roots dating back decades and offers a valuable primer on his approach to life and politics as his second term begins.

The documentary is drawn from FRONTLINE’s vast archive of incisive reporting on Trump across nearly a decade as well as new interviews with White House insiders and journalists conducted after Trump’s 2024 election victory.

“In the scope of American history, it’s almost unbelievable. In the scope of Donald Trump’s life, it’s kind of routine,” Trump biographer Marc Fisher says in the film. “The story of his life is massive swings between utter failure and glorious victory.”

“Trump’s Comeback” is a FRONTLINE production with Kirk Documentary Group, Ltd. The director is Michael Kirk. The producers are Michael Kirk, Mike Wiser and Vanessa Fica. The writers are Michael Kirk and Mike Wiser. The reporters are Vanessa Fica and Brooke Nelson Alexander. The editor-in-chief and executive producer of FRONTLINE is Raney Aronson-Rath.

Documentary Film is a broad category of visual expression that is based on the attempt, in one fashion or another, to document reality. Knowledge comes in different ways through our five senses. Hearing, watching, touching, smelling and tasting are the only doorways to the outer world. The wise men say that if something is not truly experienced with all our five senses, the experience will be partial, not total. Therefore in a way almost all our gained knowledge through life is partial. And maybe they are right.

Scientists look to geoengineering and other methods to cool the planet.

Official Website: https://to.pbs.org/3lWpliq | #novapbs

As global temperatures continue to rise, scientists are wondering if we need solutions that go beyond reducing emissions. From sucking carbon straight out of the air, to geoengineering our atmosphere to physically block out sunlight, to planting more than a trillion trees, the options may seem futuristic or tough to implement. But as time runs out on conventional solutions to climate change, scientists are asking the hard questions: Can new, sometimes controversial, solutions really work? And at what cost?

Discover how NASA engineers built and launched the most ambitious telescope of all time.

Official Website: https://www.pbs.org/nova/ | #NOVAPBS

How did NASA engineers build and launch the most ambitious telescope of all time? Follow the dramatic story of the James Webb Space Telescope—the most complex machine ever launched into space. If it works, scientists believe that this new eye on the universe will peer deeper back in time and space than ever before to the birth of galaxies, and may even be able to “sniff” the atmospheres of exoplanets as we search for signs of life beyond Earth. But getting it to work is no easy task. The telescope is far bigger than its predecessor, the famous Hubble Space Telescope, and it needs to make its observations a million miles away from Earth—so there will be no chance to go out and fix it. That means there’s no room for error; the most ambitious telescope ever built needs to work perfectly. Meet the engineers making it happen and join them on their high stakes journey to uncover new secrets of the universe.

Official Website: https://to.pbs.org/4aT92ad | #novapbs

The Forbidden City is the world’s biggest and most extravagant palace complex ever built. For five centuries, it was the power center of imperial China and survived wars, revolution, fires, and earthquakes. How did the Ming Emperor’s workforce construct its sprawling array of nearly 1,000 buildings and dozens of temples in a little over a decade? How were stupendous 250-ton marble blocks moved across many miles to reach the site? And how did fantastically intricate woodwork, all fastened without nails or glue, enable the palaces to survive hundreds of earthquakes, including recent ones that obliterated nearby modern structures? To find answers, NOVA joins a team of master craftsmen who build a scale model of a typical palace in a seismic lab, then subject it to simulated earthquakes to shake out the secrets of how the Forbidden City has withstood centuries of violent tremors.

Follow along as NASA launches the Mars 2020 Mission, perhaps the most ambitious hunt yet for signs of ancient life on Mars.

Official Website: https://to.pbs.org/3m1VnJI | #novapbs

The spacecraft will blaze into the Martian atmosphere at some 12,000 miles per hour and attempt to lower the Perseverance Rover in the rocky Jezero Crater, home to a dried-up river delta scientists think could have harbored life. Perseverance will comb the area for signs of life and collect samples for possible return to Earth. Traveling onboard is a four-pound helicopter that will conduct a series of test flights—the first on another planet.

During its journey, Perseverance will also test technology designed to produce oxygen from the Martian atmosphere, in hopes that the gas could be used for fuel—or for humans to breathe—on future missions.

It separates you from me, one galaxy from the next, and atoms from one another. It is everywhere in the universe. But to most of us, space is nothing, an empty void. Despite efforts spreading across America to reduce the use of plastic and the crisis of ocean pollution growing, the plastics industry is rapidly scaling up new production and promoting a familiar solution: recycling. But it’s estimated that no more than 10% of plastic produced has ever been recycled. The documentary “Plastic Wars,” from FRONTLINE and NPR, reveals how plastic makers for decades have publicly promoted recycling, despite privately expressing doubts that widespread plastic recycling would ever be economically viable.
