Watch live: Oversight of the U.S. Secret Service and the Attempted Assassination of President Donald J. Trump. Kim Cheatle is scheduled to speak before the Oversight committee in Congress in the US House of Representatives. At 10am ET in Washington DC, the director of the United States Secret Service Kim Cheatle will be questioned about the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally last week in Butler, Pennsylvania. Thomas Matthew Crooks has been identified as the alleged shooter in the investigation. The hearing will center on apparent oversights and mistakes the Secret Service may have made in their protection of former President Trump at the campaign rally. The organization has faced fierce criticism for allowing the shooter to get so close into position before responding and taking him out.
The president of the Butler Farm Show – where former President Trump held his rally on Saturday when the assassination attempt unfolded – tells the New York Times that Secret Service agents first visited the site less than a week before the event.
Organizers for Trump’s campaign asked to use the site in Butler on July 3 before Secret Service agents showed up to scan the area on July 8, Ken Laughlin said to the newspaper.
"It just seemed like an awful quick turn around,” he said.
Trump's rally was supposed to be held at the Butler County Airport -- but the airport was already booked out for July 13 for the Penn Township Volunteer Fire Company’s annual Mega Cruise car show, according to Stephanie Saracco, the Butler County Airport Manager.
Trump held a rally at the airport on October 31, 2020 as President.
Former Department of Defense counterterrorism analyst Kara Frederick said on the 'The Faulkner Focus' Friday that the House hearing next week with the Secret Service’s director “should give us a lot of answers” surrounding the investigation of Trump rally shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks.
The House Oversight Committe is set to question Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle on Monday.
The hearing comes after Rep. Michael Waltz, R-Fla., said members of Congress were told this week that Crooks had three encrypted accounts on overseas platforms.
“As something I did for almost ten years with the government and then with a big tech company, what you do is you can extract data from these platforms,” Frederick said. “You can figure out who were these platforms that he was supposedly using – even if they were encrypted – who was he talking to, what are his IP addresses, can you geolocate him to those physical locations... was he using aliases?”
“There are people who are in the government – even who are outside of the government – who can work to exploit that information that those accounts would convey,” she added.
The House Committee On Oversight and Accountability has scheduled a hearing for Monday with Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who is facing criticism and calls to resign from lawmakers over her agency's handling of the Trump rally shooting last weekend in Pennsylvania.
The hearing, titled "Oversight of the U.S. Secret Service and the Attempted Assassination of President Donald J. Trump," is set to unfold on Capitol Hill beginning at 10 a.m. ET Monday.
Cheatle is refusing to resign, but House Speaker Mike Johnston told FOX Business on Thursday that he is prepared to call on President Biden to fire her.
“Continuity of operations is paramount during a critical incident and U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has no intentions to step down. She deeply respects members of Congress and is fiercely committed to transparency in leading the Secret Service through the internal investigation and strengthening the agency through lessons learned in these important internal and external reviews,” Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement late Wednesday.
Cheatle was confronted by senators who were demanding answers when she showed up at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this week.

In the late 1960's Charles Manson led a small, fanatical cult on a self-styled war against society. He and several female followers were convicted of at least seven murders, including actress Sharon Tate - then eight months pregnant. The world was shocked not just by the cruelty of the crimes but the robot-like behaviour of Manson's 'family' during their trial. For many, the only comfort was the thought that Manson would be put away for life. That's why this 1981 interview caused such a stir. Not only do we see Manson, cold and unrepentant - but we hear his thoughts on gaining parole and getting out of prison 'to play like a human'.

*Synopsis | Building Bad (2024)*
As a boss of the militant CFMEU, for 12 years John Setka was as tough and feared a union
leader as this country has ever seen. In that time he made plenty of noise, but late on Friday afternoon, with barely a whimper, he suddenly quit.
What he didn’t mention in his resignation announcement though was his decision to stand down came after we sent him a list of detailed questions he wouldn’t answer.
We wanted him to explain why his construction branch of the CFMEU had been infiltrated by underworld figures and outlaw motorcycle gang members. What John Setka did say was he hoped his departure would end scrutiny of his union.
Well as you’ll see tonight, it doesn’t.
And a warning, this story contains coarse language.

*Synopsis | Power in Paradise (2024)*
When China’s powerful foreign minister Wang Yi met his Australian counterpart Penny Wong a few days ago, the pair, albeit awkwardly, smiled and shook hands for the cameras. But behind closed doors there’s no doubt the atmosphere would have been much less cordial. Both nations have plenty of differences to work through, including the ongoing battle for influence in the Pacific. While Canberra takes a more softly-softly approach to our near neighbours, that’s not Beijing’s way of doing business. In a joint investigation by 60 MINUTES, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, Nick McKenzie reveals some of the downright dirty tactics China uses to assert its dominance over tiny nations like Fiji.

Twenty-year-old Ruqia Haidari lived with a conflict she could not resolve. She was torn between two worlds. On one hand, there were the strict but important customs of her Afghan heritage. On the other, the freedoms that life in Australia promised. Her friends said Ruqia longed to be a modern woman, but at home she couldn’t bring herself to disappoint her mother, Sakina Muhammad Jan, who had an entirely different plan for her daughter’s future. She told Ruqia she must marry a man she barely knew. Love didn’t factor into the equation. It was a forced marriage, it was illegal, and it ended disastrously.

Is President Joe Biden up to the job or not? Does he have the mental capacity to lead the free world for another four years? White House insiders report his family is in no doubt, with son Hunter leading the charge, rallying his 81-year-old father to keep going to defeat Donald Trump. But should the president be taking advice from someone whose life for the past decade is best described as a train wreck? Hunter Biden is a former crack cocaine addict, currently facing the possibility of prison over tax charges and a firearm conviction. Less well-known is that Hunter is also the father of a five-year-old girl from Arkansas named Navy Joan, a fact that until recently he fought very hard to deny.

*Synopsis | Gangsters' Paradise (2024)*
It might sound strange, but the crime capital of Australia is currently Dubai. That’s because this glitzy mega city in the Persian Gulf has become home to nearly all of our biggest organised crime bosses. Their thinking in moving offshore is that they’re out of reach of federal and state policing authorities, but they might want to think again. As Nick McKenzie reports, an enormous leak of Dubai property records has revealed not only their residential addresses, but also how the city has become the perfect destination for crooks, and suspected criminals, from all around the world to do their dirty business.
