In March, 2024 Republican presidential nomination front-runner Trump is scheduled to begin standing trial on federal charges, including conspiracy to defraud the U.S., in connection with efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss. He says the charges against him are politically motivated.

“Democracy on Trial” traces the road to this unprecedented moment, and examines the implications of the historic criminal case unfolding in the midst of a presidential election year. Drawing on court documents and revelatory interviews with elected officials, former government lawyers, House Select Committee witnesses and former committee staffers, authors and journalists, the documentary reports that the work of the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack provided the groundwork for special counsel Jack Smith’s indictment of Trump and may offer insights into how the trial unfolds.

The documentary chronicles how the committee built its case against Trump and tried to prove his intent, how it chose to present its case to the American public, and criticisms of its work. Key witnesses who testified before the committee and whose firsthand accounts are now evidence in the federal case speak out in the documentary — including Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, Georgia election official Gabriel Sterling and former Arizona Speaker of the House Rusty Bowers.

Gripping and illuminating, “Democracy on Trial,” the newest film from FRONTLINE’s award-winning political team, Michael Kirk, Mike Wiser and Vanessa Fica, also examines how Trump has challenged the case. Trump has pleaded not guilty and made the legal argument, now being reviewed by an appellate court, that he has “absolute immunity” from prosecution for his actions while in office.

Multiple law enforcement officers were shot and killed while serving a warrant in for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Three U.S. Marshals were killed, another five police officers were wounded by gunfire, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings.

One suspect was found dead inside the home. Authorities said two shooters were involved in the attack.

The shooting broke out at about 1 p.m., prompting a massive law enforcement response as police cars and ambulances raced to the neighborhood and shut down surrounding streets. Gunfire continued for several minutes after the initial shooting.

Dannielle Finlay-Jones should be alive today. On weekdays, she should be teaching students at the school where she worked. And on weekends, she should be playing sport and hanging out with her friends. Instead, she’s another murdered victim of domestic violence. Her family, though, don’t want their precious Danni to be a statistic. They want the system that failed her to be fixed. As Amelia Adams reports, Danni had been looking for love, and met Ashley Gaddie, a 33-year-old tradie with a long history of violence against women, on a dating app. But Danni didn’t know about his past, or that he was out on bail at the time, and with no warning about his real character, she stood no chance.

South Florida’s Stonewall Pride Parade made a major announcement today that the parade will return on the world famous Wilton Drive on Saturday, June 15, 2024. The big news is a modification to the street festival and parade. The street festival will begin at 3 pm as hundreds of organizations will participate with booths for the 2024 festival. The breaking news is that the parade will move to a night illumination parade that will step off at 8 pm from Fort Lauderdale High School to 5 points. Floats, motorized units and walking groups will plan on being illuminated for the estimated 60,000 parade participants. Stonewall Pride Parade will be broadcast LIVE by Hotspots Magazine Happening Out Television Network on Roku and Apple Television by Queer News Tonight anchor Al Ferguson. More than 100,000 watched the 2023 streaming broadcast. Stonewall Pride Parade and Festival is one of Florida’s largest pride events. Stonewall is produced by the non-profit (501c3) Hotspots Happening Out media network. Stonewall 2024 will likely be the largest in its history as it will coincide with the Fall 2024 Presidential Election. A huge number of celebrities and politicians have participated in Wilton Manors Stonewall including Senators, Congress, Hillary Clinton and many more. As a boss of the militant CFMEU, for 12 years John Setka was as tough and feared a union
leader as this country has ever seen. In that time he made plenty of noise, but late on Friday afternoon, with barely a whimper, he suddenly quit.

What he didn’t mention in his resignation announcement though was his decision to stand down came after we sent him a list of detailed questions he wouldn’t answer.

We wanted him to explain why his construction branch of the CFMEU had been infiltrated by underworld figures and outlaw motorcycle gang members. What John Setka did say was he hoped his departure would end scrutiny of his union.

Well as you’ll see tonight, it doesn’t.
